Handles and web addresses

A handle is the name in your web address. You can hold three: one as a DJ, one for your venue, one as a promoter. Each owns a different set of pages.

Your DJ handle

Claiming a DJ handle puts your name on two public pages:

  • hypedisplay.com/l/yourhandle — your link page. This is what your QR code points at, and it is what a room reaches when they scan your screen.
  • hypedisplay.com/dj/yourhandle — your DJ profile. The longer page, for someone deciding whether to book you.

You claim it under DJ profile, not on your account page. The page checks it as you type, and you claim it the moment you save.

Venue and promoter handles

A venue handle is separate, and it can be the same word as your DJ handle or different.

  • hypedisplay.com/venue/yourvenue — your venue page.
  • hypedisplay.com/l/yourvenue/main — a link page for one of your screens. Each screen gets its own, with its own QR code.

A promoter handle works the same way, for your crew rather than your room:

  • hypedisplay.com/promoter/yourcrew — your promoter page.

The same word can be your handle in every role you hold — nobody else can take your name in another role once you hold it in one.

Before you claim one

Handles come with any paid plan — they are the one piece of Hype Display a free account does not get. On a plan that includes them, claiming takes about ten seconds: the page checks the name as you type, and it is yours the moment you save. Without one, the claim field waits, locked, and nothing else on the page is any different.

What a handle buys is the name in the address — nothing else. Your public pages do not wait for one: every profile lives at a permanent address of its own (hypedisplay.com/dj/t/… for your DJ profile, /venue/t/… and /promoter/t/… for a venue or crew), your QR code has its own permanent scan address starting with /q/, and a profile with a name and something to say appears in the directories either way. What those addresses cannot give you is a word a person can read out loud or type from a flyer. That is the part a handle adds: hypedisplay.com/dj/yourname instead of a string of letters and digits.

Changing it later

You can rename a handle from the same place you claimed it — a rename is a fresh claim, so it comes with the same plans a claim does. Everything moves with you: your links, your profile, your QR code. QR codes carry a permanent address of their own — not your handle — so a scan always lands on your current page. That covers the code on your screen and any code you download from here on; a code printed from an older download may still carry your handle, so re-download before you print again.

The written address is the part that does not follow you. If hypedisplay.com/l/yourhandle is spelled out on a flyer or in a bio, it still carries the old word after a rename — and once your old handle is released, someone else can claim it. Printed QR codes are safe; printed handles are the thing to treat like a phone number.

What this is not

A handle is not a display name. It is the address, so it is lower case, has no spaces, and has to be unique. Your on-screen name is a separate setting and can be anything you like, including the same word with different capitals.
