Connect Instagram

When you’re done, your follower count is live on screen and every gig you run starts measuring follower growth, not only time on display.

Before you start

Before you startThe Instagram connection is included on Performer and up. Compare plans.

Instagram only allows this for professional accounts — the two types Instagram itself calls Creator or Business. You cannot connect a personal account. That is Instagram’s rule, not ours.

Switching is free and takes about a minute, in Instagram’s own settings. Creator is the one most DJs want. It changes nothing about how your account looks to other people.

Connect it

  1. Open Display settings and choose the Engage tab.
  2. Find the Instagram card and choose Connect.
  3. Sign in to Instagram in the window that opens and approve the permission request.
  4. Instagram sends you back to your dashboard with the account connected.
A follower count on the card means the connection is working.

Check it workedThe card should show your Instagram handle and your current follower count. If it shows a number, it is working.

What the connection can see

  • Your handle.
  • Your follower count.

That is the whole list. It cannot read your messages, cannot post, and cannot see who your followers are. We never post anything to your account.

If you also run a venue or a night

The steps above connect your own account to your own display. A venue and a promoter brand each connect separately. Different name on screen, different connection behind it.

The house screen and the promoter screen carry the same Instagram card on their own Engage tab. Connect the brand’s account there. The counts then stay apart: your number on your display, the brand’s number on its screens. The card comes with the screen — if the account has a house or promoter screen at all, it can connect.

  • Numbered screens and the open decks screen use the house connection. There is nothing to connect on them.
  • When a DJ plays on one of your screens — a resident slot, an open decks set — that screen shows the DJ’s count, from the DJ’s own connection.
  • You can use one Instagram account for more than one of your roles. A venue and a promoter brand sharing an account is fine. What it cannot do is belong to two Hype Display accounts.

Staying connected

The connection renews itself in the background, so it keeps working without you visiting the dashboard. It can still expire, usually after you change your Instagram password or remove Hype Display from Instagram. When that happens the card says so, and reconnecting takes one click.

Disconnecting

There is a disconnect option on the same card. You can also remove Hype Display from Instagram’s own apps settings, which ends every connection using that account, whichever role it backs. Either way your count and alerts stop and nothing else changes.

If it didn’t work

Instagram refused the connection. The account is still personal. Switch it to Creator or Business and try again.

There is no Instagram card. It is a Performer feature.

The count is stuck. It updates on a timer rather than instantly. Give it a minute before assuming it is broken.

It disconnected on its own. Changing your Instagram password ends the connection. Reconnect and it picks up where it left off.
